Padre Thomas, votatosi al Male, decide di impiccarsi. Compirà l’orribile gesto nel cimitero della città in cui serviva: Dunwich. Contemporaneamente, a New York, la medium Mary avverte tutto ciò e, nel corso di una tragica seduta spiritica, cade al suolo priva, apparentemente, di vita. Peter decide di indagare e si reca a Dunwich. Girando tra le lapidi del cimitero scoprirà che Mary era stata sepolta viva, e la salva per un soffio. La giovane medium gli confiderà che sulla cittadina ste per abbattersi un’antica maledizione di cui il suicidio del parroco è il presagio.
